Oral Hygienist

We are hoping to re-establish this service from August 2020. Any urgent cleanings needed prior to this, will be done by the dentist.

Ultra-sonic cleanings will NOT be available as this presents a very high risk. Hand scaling will be done and polishing only where suitable and safe to do so. This is the instructions we received from the Chief Dental Officer. This does mean that appointment times might have to be altered. At present the fee of £55 per session will remain but this might increase in the future for patients who require much longer sessions due to more complex gum disease or a larger amount of build-up.

Our Oral Hygienist can address your concerns about staining and discolouration, sensitivity issues and gum disease.

We take great care to cater for nervous patients and discomfort is kept to an absolute minimum.

Scale & Polish

Most people can have a harmless build up of stain on their teeth, caused by food, drink and other habits (e.g. smoking or vaping).

After a visit with an Oral Hygienist your teeth will not just feel smoother, but you will also have brighter teeth and ultimately a more confident smile.

By cleaning in-between the teeth and in the hard to reach areas, bacteria, which causes bad breath and gum disease, will be removed.

Hard tarter deposits will be removed to keep gums healthy, preventing or controlling gum disease, which can lead to tooth loss if not addressed.

Gum Disease

Gum disease is normally caused by a build up of harmful deposits around the teeth. This can make the teeth feel rough or ‘furry’ and the deposits can start to grow underneath the surface of the gums, causing more serious problems.

Along with redness and soreness, bleeding gums can be a sign of gum disease. Gum disease can cause destruction of the bone around the teeth, which will lead to gaps between the teeth and gum recession. Gum disease is the main reason for loose teeth and tooth loss.

Having all harmful deposits removed will significantly improve the health of the mouth. Left untreated gum disease can lead to tooth loss.
